AR15 Info and Parts List

The AR-15

ar15

The AR-15 (ArmaLite Rifle-15 not Assault Rifle-15) is a
 lightweight, 5.56 mm(Other calibers now available), magazine-fed,
semi-automatic rifle, with a rotating-lock bolt(Bolt carrier group),
actuated by direct impingement gas (Gas Upper) operation or long/short
stroke piston (Piston Upper) operation. It is manufactured primarily
of aluminum alloys (Usually 7075) and synthetic materials (Your plastics).

The AR-15 was first built by ArmaLite as an assault rifle for the United
States armed forces.Due to financial problems, ArmaLite sold the
AR-15 design to Colt. The select-fire version of the AR-15 entered the
U.S. military system as the M16 rifle. Colt then started selling the
semi-automatic version of the M16 rifle as the Colt AR-15 for civilian
 sales in 1963.

Although the name "AR-15" remains a Colt registered trademark,
there are variations of the firearm independently made, modified and
sold under different names and multiple manufacturers. Today there are
dozens of manufacturers creating entire rifles and/or specializing in specific
 parts of the rifle.

Almost all manufacturers hold to the same Mil-Spec standards or higher
when making parts, so there isn't much concern when choosing a brand.
There are some companies that have built their reputations around their
meticulous attention to detail and additional chemical treatments
which provide piece of mind for some when making a purchase.

This section will be covering many different topics including; AR-15
General Parts List, AR-15 Part Descriptions and Uses, AR-15 Caliber
Selection, Defining The Purpose of Your AR-15, and Barrel Length Selection.
